Job Overview
The Assistant Dispatch Manager functions as a core dispatcher while also taking on vital supervisory and leadership duties. This role is responsible for proactive flight logistics, team guidance, and high-level situational awareness regarding aircraft and commercial airline schedules. Working in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, this individual must be able to lead confidently, make quick decisions in novel or unprecedented situations, interact directly with aircraft owners, and communicate effectively to seek out answers and resolve issues.
Key Responsibilities
Owner Relations & Issue Resolution: Act as a primary point of contact when interacting with aircraft owners, taking the lead to address concerns, resolve complaints, and manage expectations during operational challenges.
Team Leadership & Supervision: Provide direction and support to the dispatch team,
stepping in to lead effectively during high-stress situations.
Proactive Schedule Management: Actively monitor and plan the aircraft schedule to catch, troubleshoot, and mitigate potential issues before they impact operations.
Situational Awareness: Maintain a comprehensive view of daily operations, keeping a close eye on both private aircraft schedules and commercial airline logistics for crew movements.
Advanced International Planning: Oversee and arrange complex international operations, including handling, permits, and customs clearance.
Resourceful Problem Solving: Make critical decisions in high-pressure scenarios, even when facing situations without prior precedent, by utilizing strong communication skills to find answers and formulate solutions.Core
Dispatch Duties: Plan logistics, release flights, monitor flight progress/delays, and coordinate crew positioning.
Regulatory Compliance: Scrutinize crew duty and rest periods to strictly ensure adherence to federal regulations.
Communication: Respond to emails, phone calls, and company chat in a timely and professional manner.
Operational Coverage: Fulfill on-call shifts and provide possible overnight coverage to support the dispatch team.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Experience: Prior experience in aviation is required. Background in a leadership, supervisory, or highly autonomous role is strongly desired.
Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of aviation terminology and concepts is required.
Skills: Exceptional communication, customer service, and investigative skills to manage owner relations and find answers in unfamiliar situations. Strong attention to detail, advanced multitasking abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to manage and lead in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Shift work is required to support 24/7 operations, which includes on-call shifts, possible overnight coverage, weekends, and holidays.
Training
Comprehensive training will be provided for this role. Candidates will be equipped with the knowledge, systems, and tools necessary to succeed in both standard dispatching and supervisory duties.
